How many Shikai are in VV: ULTIMATUM?

Six Shikai are confirmed: Senbonzakura, Ink, Waypoint, Flame, Ice and Reversal. More may be added in updates.

How do you get a Shikai in VV: ULTIMATUM?

Reach Level 25, start Meditation with L, earn Shikai EXP from Spirit Whispers, solve the bell puzzle, reach Level 35, then beat the inner-world boss.

What each Shikai does

Each VV: ULTIMATUM Shikai changes your Zanpakutō into a unique moveset, so the Shikai you unlock defines your Shinigami's identity in combat. Here is the playstyle of each confirmed Shikai:

  • Senbonzakura — scatters blade petals for ranged, multi-hit pressure; strong for chip damage and zoning.
  • Ink — area control that covers the ground and punishes opponents who stand in it.
  • Waypoint — teleport- and placement-based mobility, great for repositioning and surprise angles.
  • Flame — imbues your attacks with fire for added burn damage over time.
  • Ice — applies freeze and slow effects to lock enemies in place.
  • Reversal — a counter-focused kit that rewards reading the opponent and turning their offense around.

Can you choose your Shikai?

No — your Shikai is assigned through the inner-world unlock rather than freely picked, much like in the source material where a Zanpakutō chooses its wielder. There is no confirmed in-game method to reroll a specific Shikai as of June 2026. Because the unlock is gated behind Meditation, Spirit Whispers and the inner-world boss, the fastest way to get to your Shikai is to grind Shikai EXP efficiently: lower your power level to around 25%, then trade parries with NPCs to rack up Whispers quickly. Respond to every Whisper with L the instant it appears above your HP bar.

Once unlocked, your Shikai is the strongest tool in your Shinigami kit until Bankai is added in a future update. Pair it with the Speed and Hakuda trees and a Shihoin clan for the most effective Shinigami build.

Farming Shikai EXP fast

The slowest part of unlocking a Shikai is grinding Shikai EXP, but you can speed it up a lot. After starting Meditation at Level 25, your EXP comes from Spirit Whispers — short lines that pop above your HP bar — and you bank it by pressing L the instant one appears. A popular trick is to lower your power level to roughly 25% and trade parries with NPCs: the constant exchanges generate Whispers far faster than normal questing. Respond to every Whisper, and after about six or seven you'll be pulled into the white void for the bell puzzle.

From there it's the puzzle (answers: An Echo, A Promise, The Future), a push to Level 35, the inner-world NPC, and the 3-phase boss that ends with a weapon swap and four fresh HP bars. Win it and one more Whisper unlocks your first Shikai ability. Keep Reserves up for that boss, and lean on the Speed and Hakuda trees to carry the fight.
